About Australia Tourist Visa (Subclass 600)
Electronic visa for tourism, family visits and short-stay travel to Australia
Subclass 600 · Tourist Stream Electronic Visa · No Stamp Stay 3, 6 or 12 Months

What is the Australia Tourist Visa?

The Australia Tourist Visa (Subclass 600) is a fully electronic visa — no sticker is affixed to your passport and no stamp is made at any stage. Once granted, the visa is linked to your passport electronically and can be verified at any time via the Australian government's VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online) system at vevo.homeaffairs.gov.au.

Indian citizens apply entirely online via ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. There is no in-person submission required — documents are uploaded digitally and the visa fee is paid by card. Australia operates five visa streams under Subclass 600; this page covers the Tourist Stream only, which is relevant for 95% of leisure travellers from India.

Why Preparation Matters

Prepared applications get approved.
Generic ones take chances.

The difference between a reviewed, complete file and a hastily assembled one is often the difference between an approval stamp and a refusal letter.

Without Proper Preparation
Same generic checklist for every applicant regardless of profile
Documents collected and forwarded to VFS without any review
No financial assessment against Consulate benchmarks
Weak points discovered only after the rejection letter arrives
No guidance on itinerary structure or cover letter quality
Appointment booked — everything else is left entirely to you
With Destination To Plan
Built for your profile
Document list built specifically around your employment, finances, and travel history
Quality Assurance
Every document checked for validity, consistency, and completeness before submission
Financial Benchmarking
Bank statements and ITR cross-checked against your trip duration and Consulate standards
Risk Mitigation
Application risks identified and resolved before your VFS appointment
Credibility Check
Itinerary logic, hotel sequence, and cover letter reviewed for approval credibility

Indian applicants typically see decisions in 20–25 days for complete, well-prepared files. All decisions are made centrally by the Department of Home Affairs in Australia — not by any consulate in India.

Application Timing — Plan Smarter
Seasonal patterns that affect processing speed from India
Pro Tip — Submit a Decision-Ready Application

DHA does not offer any paid fast-track processing for Tourist stream applications. The single biggest factor controlling your speed is the completeness and quality of your file at lodgement. Incomplete applications get parked while DHA writes to you for missing documents — extending processing by weeks. A well-prepared, complete application with a strong GTE statement is your only legitimate fast-track.

Required Documents
Complete checklist based on your applicant profile — all documents uploaded digitally via ImmiAccount
Category A — General Documents (All Applicants)
  • 1 Valid Passport: Scanned colour copy of bio-data page. Passport must be valid for the full period of your intended stay. Ensure at least 6 months validity beyond your planned return date. Multiple passports must all be uploaded.
  • 2 Recent Digital Photograph: High-resolution digital JPG, white background, 35×45mm equivalent, 60–80% face coverage, no glasses.
  • 3 Cover Letter / GTE Statement: Explaining purpose of visit, detailed itinerary, accommodation arrangements, how the trip is financed, and — critically — your reasons for returning to India. This is the most scrutinised part of your application.
  • 4 Tentative Travel Itinerary: Day-by-day plan of activities, cities, and accommodation. No confirmed paid flight ticket required before grant — use a refundable reservation.
  • 5 Hotel Booking Reservations: Refundable bookings for all nights in Australia. Do not pay non-refundable bookings until visa is granted.
  • 6 Travel Insurance: Recommended (comprehensive, AUD 50,000+ medical cover). Not mandatory under Australian law but strongly advised.
  • 7 Last 6 Months Personal Bank Statements: PDF from your bank showing organic, consistent balance with regular salary credits. Avoid sudden large deposits.
  • 8 Income Tax Returns: Last 2–3 years personal ITR (Form 16 / ITR-V acknowledgement).
  • 9 Salary Slips: Last 3 months with company stamp and HR signature.
  • 10 Employer NOC / Leave Approval Letter: Confirming approved leave for the travel dates, on company letterhead with seal.
  • 11 Property Documents (if owned): Sale deed, property tax receipt — strengthens GTE significantly.
  • 12 Marriage / Birth Certificates: If applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
Category B — Self-Employed / Business Owners
  • 1 Company Registration Certificate: GST Certificate, Certificate of Incorporation (all pages).
  • 2 Last 6 Months Company Bank Statements: Current account statements with regular business credits, bank-stamped.
  • 3 Company ITR: Last 3 years company income tax returns.
  • 4 Business Profile / Company Letter: On company letterhead signed by applicant explaining nature of business, turnover, and reason for travel.
Category C — Visiting Family or Friends in Australia
  • 1 Invitation Letter from Host: Informal letter stating relationship, dates, and accommodation offered.
  • 2 Host's Australian Visa / PR / Citizenship Proof: Copy of host's passport with Australian residence grant or citizenship page.
  • 3 Host's Address Proof: Recent utility bill or lease agreement at the Australian address.
  • 4 Host's Financial Documents: If host is bearing trip costs — their bank statements and employment letter.
  • 5 Proof of Relationship: Photographs, WhatsApp conversation screenshots, past travel history together.
Category D — Special Cases
  • 1 Students: College bonafide letter confirming enrolment, parents' financial documents as sponsor, undertaking to return and resume studies.
  • 2 Homemakers: Spouse's complete financial set + signed sponsorship letter + marriage certificate. Personal bank statement and any property or FD documents in own name.
  • 3 Retirees / Pensioners: Pension order / PPO, last 6 months pension-credited bank statements, FD certificates, property ownership documents.
  • 4 Minors (under 18): Birth certificate, copies of both parents' passports, school bonafide letter, both parents' signatures on application. NOC from absent parent if travelling with one parent.
How the Online Application Works
Australia Subclass 600 is 100% online — no in-person submission required for most applicants
ImmiAccount Setup

Create a free account at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. One account covers your entire family. No fee to register. You can save progress and return across multiple sessions.

Online Form 1419

Form auto-populates within ImmiAccount. Covers personal details, travel plan, financial info, health and character declarations. Saves as you go — can be edited before payment.

Document Upload

All documents uploaded as PDFs within ImmiAccount. Maximum 60 documents, 5 MB per file. Organise by category: identity, financial, employment, travel, supporting.

Visa Application Charge (VAC)

AUD 200 per applicant, paid online by international credit or debit card. A card surcharge of approximately 1.4% may apply. Payment is taken at lodgement — not before.

No In-Person Visit Required

For most Indian applicants, the entire application is completed online. A VFS VAC visit is only required if DHA separately requests biometrics — which is rare for Tourist Stream.

Grant Notification

Decision arrives by email and ImmiAccount notification. Visa is electronic — no sticker, no passport handover. Verify at VEVO anytime. Carry grant letter to Australian border.

Critical Mistakes That Lead to Rejection
  • Fake or inflated bank statements
  • Sudden lump-sum deposits before applying
  • Fabricated employment or NOC letters
  • Non-refundable bookings before visa grant
  • Vague or generic GTE statement
  • Incomplete applications hoping to fix later
  • Using unregistered agents with guarantee claims
  • Applying with a passport expiring within 6 months

💡 DHA does not offer any paid express service. A complete, well-organised application with a strong GTE statement is your only legitimate way to minimise processing time.

Application Process — Step by Step
Follow these 7 steps to complete your Australia Subclass 600 Tourist Stream application
1

Create ImmiAccount Online

Register at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au with a valid email address. One account covers your entire family. You will receive a confirmation email. Keep your login credentials safe — all future correspondence with DHA happens via this portal.

2

Select Subclass 600 → Tourist Stream Online

Within ImmiAccount click "New Application" → "Visitor" → "Subclass 600" → "Tourist Stream." Selecting the correct stream is critical — applying under the wrong stream will result in a refusal. Double-check before proceeding.

3

Complete Form 1419 Online

Fill all sections: personal details, travel dates and itinerary, financial information, employment, health and character declarations. Your GTE statement is written here — explain clearly why you are visiting, what you will do, how you are funded, and why you will return to India. This is the single most scrutinised part of your application.

4

Upload Supporting Documents Document

Upload all required documents as PDFs in the Document Checklist section. Organise clearly — label each document type. Maximum 60 documents, 5 MB per file. A well-organised, complete document set at lodgement is your only legitimate way to speed up processing. Do not lodge with missing items hoping to add later.

5

Pay Visa Application Charge Payment

Pay AUD 200 per applicant via international credit or debit card within ImmiAccount. A card surcharge of approximately 1.4% may apply. The fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome. Your application is officially lodged at this point.

6

Biometrics — IF Requested by DHA Conditional

Most Indian Tourist applicants will not receive a biometrics request. If DHA needs additional identity verification in your case, you will receive an official Biometrics Collection Letter via ImmiAccount. Only then must you attend a VFS Global VAC centre in India. See the dedicated Biometrics section below for full details.

7

Receive Grant Notification Decision

Decision arrives by email and ImmiAccount notification. Your visa grant number, validity period, permitted stay duration, and conditions are all listed in the grant letter. Verify your visa at any time on VEVO (vevo.homeaffairs.gov.au). There is no sticker — carry your grant letter printout to the Australian border for smooth entry.

Biometrics for Australia Visa — Conditional Step Only
Most Indian Tourist applicants will not need biometrics. Here's exactly when you do.
DHA will tell you if biometrics are required — it is not automatic.

Under the Migration Act 1958, you may be required to provide biometrics as part of your visa application. DHA will notify you directly via ImmiAccount if this applies to your case. India is not in the routine biometrics program for Tourist Stream applicants.

1

What Biometrics Means

Biometrics are your personal identifiers — specifically a digital image of your face and scans of all 10 fingerprints. DHA uses these to confirm your identity at the time of application, on entry to Australia, and when you apply for future visas.

2

How to Provide Them

If DHA requests biometrics, you will either be asked to attend an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC) operated by VFS Global, or — if eligible — submit via the Australian Immi App. DHA's notification letter will specify which method applies to you.

3

At Your ABCC Appointment

Bring the passport linked to your visa application — VFS will generally not collect biometrics without it. Staff will take a face image and scan all 10 fingertips. A service fee is charged by the ABCC at the time of your appointment.

If You Receive a Biometrics Request

Complete biometrics within the timeframe in DHA's letter. Failure to attend on time may result in refusal. Carry your Biometrics Collection Letter and the passport linked to your application to the ABCC. To find your nearest ABCC visit VFS Global — Australia. For full details refer to the official DHA biometrics page.

Submit on a weekday morning IST — your application enters the DHA queue during Australian business hours rather than sitting over a weekend, reducing effective wait time by 2–3 days.

Do not submit incomplete applications — a parked file waiting for missing documents is counted in your processing time. DHA writes to you via ImmiAccount; every day you take to respond adds to your total wait.

Total ImmiAccount session time: Allow 90–120 minutes for first-time applicants to complete Form 1419, upload all documents, and pay the AUD 200 fee. Do not attempt in one rushed sitting — ImmiAccount saves progress automatically.

Australia Visa Rejection Reasons & How to Improve Approval Chances
Understand what DHA officers look for — and how to build an application that answers their key question

❌ Common Reasons Applications Get Refused

  • Failing the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) test — the single biggest cause of refusal
  • Insufficient funds or inconsistent bank statements
  • Sudden large deposits just before applying (raises suspicion)
  • Vague, unconvincing, or generic GTE statement
  • Weak ties to India — no employment, no property, no family dependents
  • Incomplete documents or contradictory information across the file
  • Previous Australian visa overstays or immigration non-compliance
  • Health or character issues not properly addressed
  • Fake employment letters or fabricated financial documents
  • Suspected immigration intent rather than genuine temporary visit

✅ How to Strengthen Your Application

  • Write a detailed, specific GTE statement — purpose, itinerary, financing, and clear return intent
  • Show 6 months of organic, consistent bank balance with regular income credits
  • Provide stable employment letter, recent ITR, and salary slips
  • Submit a detailed day-by-day itinerary with refundable hotel bookings
  • Demonstrate strong ties to India — employment, property, family dependents
  • Include past international travel history — especially OECD countries
  • Use refundable flight and hotel bookings until visa is granted
  • Be fully transparent about any prior visa refusals or immigration history
Financial Benchmarks — What DHA Generally Expects
Short Trip (7–10 days)
AUD 5,000+
Minimum recommended liquid balance
Standard Trip (10–15 days)
AUD 8,000–10,000
With confirmed hotel and return flight
Extended Stay (up to 90 days)
AUD 15,000+
Consistent income matters more than lump sum
NOTE
No officially fixed minimum. Organic, consistent savings with clear income history carry far more weight than a one-time inflated deposit.
First-Time International Travellers — Specific Guidance
  • No prior travel history is common and not an automatic rejection trigger for Australia
  • Compensate with a stronger GTE statement — be very specific about your purpose, itinerary, and return intent
  • Submit additional financial evidence: longer bank statements, FDs, property documents, ITR history
  • A shorter first trip (7–10 days) with a tight, credible itinerary is easier to justify than an open-ended 3-week trip
  • Employer NOC with explicit leave approval dates substantially strengthens your file

How DHA Officers Think — The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Test

Every Australia Tourist visa officer evaluates your application through one lens: "Is this person a Genuine Temporary Entrant?" The GTE requirement means DHA must be satisfied that you intend to visit Australia temporarily for the purpose stated — and that you intend to return to India at the end of your permitted stay.

Your application must proactively answer three questions: Why Australia, why now? (purpose and itinerary) — Can you fund the trip? (financial proof) — and Why will you return to India? (employment ties, property, family dependents, ongoing commitments). A strong GTE statement is the single most differentiating factor between approvals and refusals for Indian applicants.

Australia Transit Visa (Subclass 771) for Indians
When you need a separate transit visa just to pass through Australia
Subclass 771 — Key Facts

The Australia Transit Visa (Subclass 771) is completely free to apply for via ImmiAccount. However, processing takes approximately 3–4 weeks. Permitted stay on a Subclass 771 is up to 72 hours. Apply at least one month before your transit date. The 8-hour airside rule is the critical threshold — understand it before booking layover flights through Australia.

When You Do NOT Need a Transit Visa
  • Layover under 8 hours staying airside (no immigration clearance)
  • No baggage collection required — bags checked through to destination
  • No terminal change between arrival and departure
  • Already hold a valid Australian visa of any subclass
When You WILL Need a Transit Visa
  • Layover over 8 hours or overnight stay in Australia
  • Need to pass through immigration or collect baggage
  • Change of airport or terminal requiring immigration clearance
  • Separate tickets requiring re-check-in at an Australian airport
  • Transiting Sydney or Melbourne overnight (airports close — no airside stay)
Real Travel Scenarios — At a Glance
No Visa Required
Delhi → Sydney (airside, <8 hrs) → Auckland — same terminal, no baggage
No Visa Required
Delhi → Melbourne → continued, same airline, same PNR, airside only
Visa Required
Delhi → Sydney (overnight hotel stay) → Auckland next day
Visa Required
Delhi → Sydney → Gold Coast onwards (airport change = immigration)
Visa Required
Delhi → Darwin (baggage transfer, separate PNR) → Southeast Asia
Visa Required
Separate tickets with re-check-in through Australian immigration at any airport
Common Transit Booking Mistakes
  • Booking separate tickets — Each leg on a different PNR at an Australian airport typically requires re-check-in through immigration, making a transit visa mandatory
  • Assuming long airside layovers are automatically allowed — Australian airports close overnight — you cannot wait airside overnight at Sydney or Melbourne
  • Not confirming baggage transfer logistics — Darwin especially has known baggage transfer issues that force immigration clearance even for short connections
Australia Visa Processing — Official Resources
All Subclass 600 applications from India are processed centrally by DHA in Australia — not by any consulate in India
All decisions made in Australia — not India

Unlike Schengen visas, there is no Australian consulate processing in India for Tourist visas. Applications are lodged online via ImmiAccount and assessed by Department of Home Affairs (DHA) officers in Australia. VFS Global in India only facilitates biometrics collection if separately requested — they have no role in the visa decision.

Australia Tourist Visa from India — Complete 2026 Guide

The Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) remains one of the most sought-after international visas for Indian travellers in 2026. With Australia consistently ranking among the top long-haul destinations for Indian tourists, the Subclass 600 Tourist Stream is the primary pathway for leisure travel, family visits, and honeymoon trips to destinations like Sydney, Melbourne, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Gold Coast.

Why Australian Visa Applications from India Succeed or Fail

The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) test is the defining factor in every Australian tourist visa decision. Unlike Schengen or UK visas that primarily evaluate financial strength, the Australian system places equal — often greater — emphasis on your intent to return to India. Your GTE statement must proactively answer three questions: why you are visiting, how you are funding the trip, and what ties you have to India that guarantee your return.

Financial Requirements — What Indian Applicants Often Get Wrong

The biggest financial mistake Indian applicants make is a sudden large deposit of cash just before applying to "show funds." DHA bank statement analysis looks at pattern and history, not just the current balance. Six months of organic income credits with a steady growing balance is far more persuasive than a transfer the week before lodgement. Self-employed applicants face additional scrutiny — company bank statements must show consistent business turnover.

How the Electronic Visa Works at Australian Borders

Because the Australia Tourist Visa is fully electronic, many first-time travellers arrive at the border confused about where their visa is. There is no sticker, no stamp, and no physical document required at check-in or border control. When your airline scans your passport, the visa record is retrieved automatically from DHA's electronic system. Carry a printout of your grant letter as a precaution — especially useful if any technical issue occurs at check-in.

VAC Centres — Do Indian Applicants Really Need to Visit?

Unlike the UK or Canada visa systems, Australia does not routinely require Indian Tourist visa applicants to attend an in-person biometrics centre as part of the standard application process. VFS Global's 12 Australia Visa Application Centres (VACs) in India exist primarily for biometrics collection when DHA specifically requests it — a rare occurrence for Tourist Stream applicants. Most applicants complete their entire application at home via ImmiAccount without any physical visit.

Your Group Tour to Australia — What to Tell DHA

If you are travelling as part of a group tour — including a Destination To Plan group package — your application is still submitted individually via ImmiAccount. Your cover letter should reference the group tour, include the tour operator's itinerary, and explain that accommodation and transport are pre-arranged as part of the package. Group travel is viewed positively by DHA as it reduces itinerary ambiguity.

Frequently Asked Questions — Australia Visa from India
38 most-asked questions answered for Indian tourist visa applicants in 2026.
1What is the Australia Tourist Visa subclass for Indian tourists?
The primary visa for Indian tourists is the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) — Tourist Stream. It is a multiple-entry electronic visa valid for up to 12 months, with each stay limited to 3 months (90 days) unless a longer stay is specifically approved by DHA.
2Do Indian citizens need a visa to visit Australia?
Yes. India is not part of any Australia visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangement. All Indian passport holders must apply for and receive a visa before travelling to Australia. The grant is electronic — there is no sticker or stamp in your passport.
3Can I get an Australia visa on arrival from India?
No. Australia does not offer visa on arrival for Indian citizens. The visa must be applied for and granted before you travel via ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. There is no eTA or eVisitor category available for Indian passport holders — the Subclass 600 Tourist Stream is mandatory.
4How long does the Australia tourist visa take to process in 2026?
DHA's published data shows 75% of Tourist Stream applications are decided within approximately 20 days. Indian applicants with first-time travel histories or complex profiles typically fall in the 25–40 day range. Apply at least 6–8 weeks before travel during peak season (April–August). DHA does not offer paid express processing.
5What is the GTE test and why does it matter?
The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement is DHA's primary assessment criterion. You must demonstrate a genuine intention to visit Australia temporarily and return to India. Your GTE statement — written directly in ImmiAccount Form 1419 — must explain your travel purpose, funding, and ties to India such as employment, property, and family dependents. It is the single most important factor in the decision.
6How much bank balance is needed for an Australia tourist visa from India?
DHA does not publish a minimum balance figure. A general benchmark is approximately AUD 5,000–8,000 for a 2–3 week trip, covering flights, accommodation, and daily expenses. More important than the balance amount is 6 months of consistent account history showing organic income. DHA is wary of sudden large deposits made just before applying.
7What documents are required for an Australia tourist visa from India?
Core documents: valid passport (6+ months validity), recent passport photo, 6-month bank statements, ITR and salary slips (last 3 months), leave approval letter from employer, hotel booking confirmations, return flight itinerary, travel insurance, and a cover letter with GTE statement. Self-employed applicants also need business registration and company financials. All documents are uploaded digitally via ImmiAccount.
8Is travel insurance mandatory for an Australia tourist visa?
Not strictly mandatory under Australian visa law, but DHA strongly recommends it and many case officers view its absence negatively. Australia's medical costs are among the world's highest — comprehensive travel insurance with AUD 50,000+ medical cover is practically essential for any trip. Its inclusion also strengthens your overall application profile.
9How do I apply for an Australia tourist visa from India?
Create an account on ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au, start a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) Tourist Stream application, complete all sections including your GTE statement, upload supporting documents as PDFs, pay the AUD 200 fee via international card, and submit. The entire process is online — no embassy or VFS visit required for most applicants.
10What is ImmiAccount?
ImmiAccount is the Australian Government's official online visa application portal at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. It is the only authorised platform for lodging Subclass 600 applications. Avoid third-party websites that claim to submit your Australian visa — they are either migration agents or scam sites. DHA encourages all applicants to apply directly via ImmiAccount.
11What is the Australia tourist visa fee in Indian rupees in 2026?
The fee is AUD 200 (approximately ₹11,000–₹13,000 depending on exchange rate at the time of payment). All applicants including children pay the same fee — there is no children's discount for offshore Tourist Stream. The fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome. Pay only via the secure ImmiAccount payment gateway using an international card.
12Can I pay the Australia visa fee in Indian rupees?
The fee is listed in AUD but ImmiAccount accepts international credit and debit cards — your bank will convert at its prevailing exchange rate. You can also use a forex card or international payment card. UPI and net banking are not accepted directly on ImmiAccount. A card surcharge of approximately 1.4% may apply on top of the AUD 200 base fee.
13Is the Australia visa fee refunded if rejected?
No. The AUD 200 application fee is non-refundable in all circumstances — whether your application is approved, refused, or withdrawn. This is DHA's policy and cannot be waived under any circumstances. Budget for this as a sunk cost when applying.
14Do I need to visit a VFS VAC centre to apply?
No. The standard tourist visa application is entirely online via ImmiAccount. VFS Global VAC centres in India exist for biometrics collection when DHA specifically requests it — which rarely happens for Tourist Stream applications from India. Do not visit a VFS centre unless you have received an official Biometrics Collection Letter from DHA via ImmiAccount.
15What is VEVO and how do I use it?
VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online) is DHA's free tool at vevo.homeaffairs.gov.au that allows you to verify your visa grant, conditions, and entitlements. Use it to confirm your visa is active before travel. Airlines and Australian border officials also use VEVO to electronically verify your visa — there is no sticker or stamp needed at the border.
16How long can I stay in Australia on a tourist visa?
The standard Tourist Stream Subclass 600 allows stays of up to 3 months (90 days) per visit. The visa may be valid for up to 12 months allowing multiple entries, but each individual stay is capped at 3 months unless DHA specifically grants a longer permitted stay duration at the time of decision.
17Can I extend my Australia tourist visa while in Australia?
You can apply for a further Visitor Visa from within Australia before your current visa expires. However, extensions are not guaranteed — DHA will fully reassess your GTE. Do not overstay your visa under any circumstances as it results in a formal overstay record, deportation proceedings, and bans from future Australian visas.
18What is the Australia tourist visa rejection rate for Indians?
DHA does not publish country-specific refusal rates. Anecdotally, rejection rates for Indian tourists have been reported in the 15–25% range for first-time applicants, primarily due to insufficient GTE statements, weak financial evidence, or incomplete documentation. The rate drops significantly for repeat travellers with strong profiles and prior visa compliance history.
19What are the most common reasons for Australia visa rejection?
Top reasons: weak or absent GTE statement, insufficient proof of ties to India, inadequate financial evidence, sudden bank deposits before applying, missing or inconsistent documents, prior visa overstays anywhere in the world, failure to disclose health or character information accurately, and vague or generic travel purpose stated in Form 1419.
20Can I reapply after an Australia visa rejection?
Yes. There is no mandatory waiting period after a Subclass 600 refusal. You can reapply immediately but must address the specific reasons for refusal in your new application and pay the full AUD 200 fee again. Reapplying without addressing the rejection reason is unlikely to succeed. Review DHA's refusal letter carefully before your next application.
21Does Australia tourist visa allow multiple entries?
Yes. The Subclass 600 Tourist Stream is typically a multiple-entry visa, allowing you to enter and exit Australia multiple times during the validity period, provided each individual stay does not exceed the permitted duration shown in your grant letter.
22Can I work on an Australia tourist visa?
No. The Subclass 600 Tourist Stream strictly prohibits any form of paid or unpaid work in Australia. Working — including casual, remote, or freelance arrangements — constitutes a condition breach and can lead to visa cancellation, deportation, and future bans. For work purposes, apply for the relevant Australian work visa subclass.
23Can I study on an Australia tourist visa?
Short-term study of up to 3 months is permitted on the Tourist Stream. For longer academic programs or formal enrolment, you must apply for a Student Visa (Subclass 500). Attempting to study full-time on a tourist visa is a condition breach and can affect all future Australian visa applications.
24Is a medical examination required for an Australia tourist visa?
Not for most short-term tourist applications. A health examination at a DHA-approved Bupa panel doctor may be required if your trip exceeds 3 months, if you are from a country with high TB prevalence (India is included in DHA monitoring), or if DHA specifically requests one via ImmiAccount based on your declared health history.
25What are the character requirements for an Australia tourist visa?
You must meet Australia's character requirements under Section 501 of the Migration Act. This involves accurately declaring any criminal history, including traffic offences resulting in imprisonment. Providing false information is grounds for immediate refusal and potential permanent ineligibility for all future Australian visas.
26What is the Sponsored Family Stream vs Tourist Stream?
The Sponsored Family Stream under Subclass 600 is for visitors sponsored by an Australian citizen, PR, or eligible NZ citizen relative. It may allow longer stays but requires an approved sponsor lodged separately. The Tourist Stream is self-sponsored and is the standard option for the vast majority of Indian tourists visiting Australia for leisure.
27Can I apply for an Australia visa if I have a previous US or UK visa?
A valid US, UK, or Schengen visa does not automatically entitle you to an Australian visa, but it significantly strengthens your profile. It demonstrates prior international travel history, reduces perceived migration risk, and often results in faster GTE assessment. Always include copies of previous visas in your ImmiAccount document upload set.
28Can I travel to Australia for a group tour from India?
Yes. Group tour participants apply individually via ImmiAccount but include the group tour itinerary and operator documents as supporting evidence. Group travel is viewed positively by DHA as it reduces itinerary ambiguity and demonstrates pre-arranged accommodation and transport. Include all tour documents as a supporting attachment in your application.
29Do I need confirmed hotel bookings for an Australia visa application?
Yes, itinerary evidence is required. Use refundable or flexible bookings — do not pay non-refundable rates until your visa is granted. Booking printouts showing your name, dates, property name, and cancellation policy are sufficient. DHA does not require pre-paid non-refundable accommodation as proof.
30Do I need confirmed flight tickets for an Australia visa application?
Flight itinerary is recommended but confirmed purchased tickets are not required. Most case officers accept a flight search printout or refundable itinerary showing your intended travel dates and routing. Do not purchase non-refundable flights before your visa is approved — processing delays do occur and non-refundable bookings before grant are a financial risk.
31How do I track my Australia visa application status?
Log into your ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au to check real-time status. Status progressions: Received → Under Assessment → Decision Made. You will also receive email notification when a decision is made. Once granted, verify your visa is active on VEVO at vevo.homeaffairs.gov.au before booking any final travel arrangements.
32What is a Bridging Visa A (BVA) in Australia?
A Bridging Visa A (BVA) is automatically granted if you apply for a further substantive visa while lawfully in Australia and your current visa expires before DHA makes a decision. It allows you to remain legally in Australia during the assessment period. A BVA is not a tourist visa extension — it is a holding visa that maintains lawful status only and cannot be used to leave and re-enter Australia.
33Can a housewife or homemaker apply for an Australia tourist visa from India?
Yes. Homemakers can apply — the key is demonstrating financial sponsorship by a spouse or parent, strong family ties (spouse employed in India, children in school), and a clear reason to return. A well-written GTE statement and the sponsor's complete financial documents (bank statement, ITR, salary slips, NOC, marriage certificate) are critical for homemaker applicants.
34Can a retired person apply for an Australia tourist visa?
Yes. Retirees can apply using pension income, fixed deposits, or mutual fund statements as financial evidence. Ties to India such as property ownership and family are evaluated positively. Include a Pension Payment Order (PPO), last 6 months pension-credited bank statement, and property documents. Mention retired status explicitly in your GTE statement.
35What is the transit visa for Australia?
The Transit Visa (Subclass 771) is for passengers transiting through Australian airports who need to clear immigration — for example due to overnight stays, terminal changes, or separate tickets requiring re-check-in. It allows a maximum stay of 72 hours, is completely free to apply for via ImmiAccount, and takes approximately 3–4 weeks to process. Apply at least one month before your transit date.
36Is there a fast track or priority processing option for Australia tourist visa?
DHA does not offer a paid priority or fast-track lane for Tourist Stream Subclass 600 applications. Processing time is determined by case complexity and DHA workload. Submitting a complete, well-documented application with a strong GTE statement at lodgement is the only legitimate way to avoid delays caused by DHA writing to you for missing information.
37Should I use a visa agent to apply for an Australia tourist visa?
It is not necessary and DHA encourages direct applications via ImmiAccount. If you do use an agent, use only a MARA-registered Migration Agent (Migration Agents Registration Authority) — verify credentials at mara.gov.au. Unregistered agents, WhatsApp consultants, and travel agents claiming "guaranteed" visas have no legal standing and cannot intervene with DHA on your behalf.
38Can Destination To Plan apply for my Australia visa?
Destination To Plan is a group tour operator, not a registered migration agent. We provide guidance, document checklists, and tour packages — but the visa application must be submitted directly by you via ImmiAccount. We help you understand the process and prepare your itinerary documentation for the group tour component of your application.
